From 2 to 4 December 2026, the 4th International Colloquium on Agroecology and Feminisms (CIFA) will bring together farmers, researchers, social movements, policymakers and artists at the Université Libre de Bruxelles around the theme “Confronting Violence with Feminisms, Agroecology and Food Sovereignty.” The event, supported by the SWIFT project, created a space for horizontal dialogue and alliance-building among voices rarely gathered at the same table, from Europe and across the world.

Over three days, participants will explore ten interconnected themes: solidarity in times of war and conflict, social and solidarity economy, generational renewal, migrant women’s labour, LGBTIQ+ communities in agroecology, working conditions and feminist farm viability, democratisation of care, agricultural policies and income, climate change adaptation, and access to land and collective forms of property. Contributions will range from scientific presentations and workshops to artistic interventions and advocacy tools, reflecting the diversity of forms through which feminist agroecology is practised and theorised. A recurring thread throughout the sessions will be the recognition that interconnected crises — climate breakdown, democratic backsliding, armed conflicts, biodiversity loss — demanding responses grounded in intersectional feminist ethics: care, non-violence, solidarity and redistribution of power.

The conference will mark a significant moment for the SWIFT project with the launch of the SWIFT Advocacy Tool, designed to support gender-transformative approaches in agricultural policy across Europe. The colloquium wants to reaffirm that feminist agroecology is not a niche academic debate but a living political practice, built by peasant women, migrant workers, queer farmers, Indigenous communities and researchers who are already constructing alternatives to dominant agri-food systems — and who will gather in Brussels to strengthen the alliances that make those alternatives possible.
